  16. On December 25, 2016, a thick fog settled around the outskirts of Las Vegas, effectively cutting it off from the outside world--to an extent. It was not impenetrable, though the sounds that emanated from it, and the creatures that rose from its depths, were enough to scare off any citizen that wanted to leave the city. Though some still braved the fog, flights to and from Las Vegas were cancelled and most communication with the rest of the US is done via social media and radio communications. Naturally, tourism died down and some found themselves trapped. Those that were brave enough to leave the city did so carefully; new things were abound, creatures that humanity never believed in; they were things out of books and movies, things that weren't real. First came the demons, infiltrating the city from within. Rumors of a portal to hell led to searches that were fruitless. They slithered their way into the city's government, tricking the humans with their manipulative lies and forcing mankind into deals they could not break. Next came the dead, rising from the graves. Of them, came their Queen, rallying them into a force to be reckoned with: the streets became riddled with the dead, many disguised by her magic trinkets and charms. The vampires came too, though they'd always been there. They called themselves Sanguinarians and lived quietly under their human guises. Then came the shifters, previously hiding in the farthest reaches of the desert, where no one would find them. Their packs picked at the edges of the city as they sought to claim part of it as their own territory. From the surfacing of these creatures, the Gifted came forward, offering spells and aid where previously there was none. The witches were no longer shunned, but welcomed in hopes that they could help fix what befell the city. Now, they struggle with one another, forging alliances and fighting their enemies, all while trying to maintain some guise of civility. Sin City lives up to its name, and until the fog lifts, Las Vegas's status within the US remains a mystery. Some come, daring to face the creatures that prowl in the fog.

  18. Characters Wanted: Steros Family Malcolm Steros and Children Malcolm Steros is a bit of an asshole, to say the least. Handsome, with dark hair and startling clear blue eyes, this man is a force to be reckoned with. Like Beatrix, his second wife, he is also Gifted--a Witch to be exact. He loves Bea deeply, having abandoned his wife and children from his first family to be with her. The pair had three children in addition to the two with his ex-wife, leaving this man the father of five. However, Beatrix is convinced he's still messing with his ex-wife and ran off, settling herself in Las Vegas where she opened a club: The Monarch. He is in his late 40s to early 50s. He is also extremely wealthy. Malcolm is from Las Vegas, and that is where he met both Heather and Beatrix. His family has an estate in Las Vegas, which he and the children have returned to. The three youngest children are all minors, varying in age from nine and younger--they are considered NPCs in this regard, and are not playable. Whoever adopts Malcolm will be responsible for the kids. Heather Steros and Children This is the ex-wife and mother of the two eldest Steros children. She is also in her late 40s to early 50s. Their oldest child is the same age as Beatrix: 27. She is female. The younger one is probably in his early 20s and resembles his father. Heather's faceclaim, like Malcolm's, is open. The daughter and son are also completely open--they've got no names, so that is up to whoever adopts them.

This is a list of canon characters that are available to play. If you wish to take one, simply comment--the reservation will last approximately a week. This should be plenty of time to get the character created, as this is a no-app site: you simply have to fill in the required slots, so we know where to sort you. Before adopting one of these characters, please review the following rules in regard to their use: Canon characters must be made within one week of their reservation. Canon characters are required to be active. If you need to take a break, please post in our Absences forum. You will be given up to one month of leave before the character will be opened up for reassignment. This is solely so that we can continue to drive the plot forward in a kiss of darkness. For the most part, these characters are flexible. However, in some cases there may be a preference or requirement to the character. We ask that you respect these and take them into consideration before choosing to play one. To Reserve a character, simply post a reply stating which character you'd like to reserve. A reserve lasts one week. You have that long to complete the character's profile. If you need to make an extension, you may ask for one using this thread at any time. To claim a character, you must have completed the profile. This is the only time a character will require approval before play. Simply post here with a brief history of your approved character, and we'll update the canon list with the character's name, a link to its profile, and the use of your blurb. 20. Hey guys. So first, to reiterate what I said in my belated happy opening post: we're technically officially open (sans the few species I forgot to fill out) as of January 15, 2020. Here's to hoping that, despite our incredibly rocky start, we continue to grow! In regards to that rocky start: apparently, when I tried to move some forums earlier, the system wiped out the forums altogether. Fortunately, this only affected the main board. Clubs were not bothered by this. Since then, I've patched the version of the software and recreated the forums. We lost three threads as a result of this: a generic welcome to IPS thread, my other opening announcement thread, and the RP between Victoria and Gwyllgi. I am not sure what caused this to happen, but I greatly apologize for the inconvenience--it seems our launch has been plagued by those, but that is to be expected. Not every launch of something is perfect. In this regard, the forums as they now are are pretty set in stone. Anything that needs added or removed will likely be handled through clubs (optional private RP there) anyway, so there shouldn't be even a possibility of a re-occurrence of this issue.

  22. So I derped and forgot to put up an announcement, but I wanted to let you guys know that (despite my failure to finish filling out some of the lore/information) the site is and has been officially open since the middle of last month! Woohoo! Here's to hoping we have a long, lively future together and that we meet awesome and inspiring writers!

Overview The term "Gifted" refers to those that appear human, yet exhibit otherworldly traits. Whether its through gene-modification, experimentation, or simply the fact they were born with the innate ability to use magic, these humans often stand out among their more mundane counterparts. Creation Gifted are most commonly created through traditional means: they are simply born from their parents with natural ability. Other methods of creation include experimentation and modification--often done by scientists that have made their living testing out different methods of extraction and application using traits harvested from other Gifted. In some cases, traits from preternatural creatures are applied in this fashion. Sub-type Unlike other species, there's no exact classification for the various sub-types of the Gifted, aside from Witches.

    January 2020

2020 is here and Las Vegas is thriving, living up to its namesake of Sin City. The current mayor is a powerful demon disguised as a human that has swayed the votes of Las Vegas in her favor. The city is rife with crime and dark temptations lurk around every corner. Will you join the darkness? Or will you fight against it? In a kiss of darkness, players are given a real-life simulation of living in Las Vegas, but with the addition of supernatural creatures that came into the open on Black Christmas-- December 25, 2016. In the three years since, residents of the United States (and the world) have been fighting in favor of equal rights for the Others, or against them entirely. Hunters lurk around the city, assassinating key members of society in an effort to purge the world of the Others. The Church fights what they see as a demonic attempt at conquest. Law enforcement is at a loss, but struggle to upend the corruption that has settled within the city. Whether you wish to be an officer, an official, a local business owner, or something else entirely, we will work with you to create a sandbox we’ll all love and enjoy writing in.

Out-of-Character Rules a kiss of darkness is a 3/3/3 rated, supernatural horror set in modern day Las Vegas, Nevada. We adhere vehemently to this rating, which means a character may encounter scenarios normally not found to be acceptable in other games. Extreme violence is permitted; however, threads that contain such content must be properly tagged with the letters TW (Trigger Warning). Threads containing mature content, such as graphic depictions of sexual acts, must be labeled NSFW (Not Safe For Work). About that mature content... OOC consent is required for the following scenarios: character death, character maiming, and sexual assault. Scenes depicting sexual intercourse cannot occur with characters below the age of 18. While the age of consent varies from country to country and sexual acts among teens are common practices, we feel this rule is necessary. Any sexual scenes that involve characters under the age of eighteen must fade to black. Implied sex with characters under the age of sixteen is prohibited. Simultaneously, we enforce an inclusive atmosphere. While a player might encounter inflammatory dialogue IC, we expect players to treat one another with respect--especially OOCly. a kiss of darkness is a real-world setting with supernatural elements. If a thread contains potentially offensive material (bigotry, racism, sexism, anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments, ableism, xenophobia, religious discrimination, etc.) , it must be tagged with CW (Content Warning). There is no word count. A player can write as little or as much as they wish and we will never regulate posts based on word counts. It is the player's responsibility to speak with their partner and find a happy medium when it comes to discussing post length. Players are asked to keep their partner in mind when it comes to writing their posts and, unless wrapping up a thread, provide enough material to respond to. Applications? No thanks. a kiss of darkness runs on a no-app system. Players only need to register with their OOC account, and from there characters can be created via use of the IPS Character Mod. (For more information on using our character system, please be sure to check out our Quick-Start Guide which is located under the information tab.) Once the required fields are completed and a character is submitted, players will be able to use that character immediately. In regards to Playbys/Faceclaims: these may be anything, ranging from celebrities to artwork. Depending on which type of portrait is used, players are required to provide either the model's name or credit to the artist. Use of the same faceclaim is at the discretion of the person that chose it first. If the answer is no, then the answer is no. The only exception is if the player using the faceclaim has been inactive for a significant period of time, in which case players may contact a member of the staff regarding its use. What is a character cap? We don't have one. Though we prefer that users delete the characters they ultimately choose not to play, we will not be limiting the amount that one can create. However, characters that hold important roles within the game must be kept active, or they will be replaced. In-Character Rules Time is non-linear. Some boards also use the term liquid. What it means is this: a character may take part in multiple threads at once, but it is the player's responsibility to set the sequences of events in their character's timeline. Past dates can be used for retroactive roleplay, but since time travel itself does not exist in this universe, a thread cannot start in the future--however, a completed thread can take take place at any point during the span of time it was open. For example, if the thread began on August 1, 2020 and ended on August 15, 2020, the players involved can say that the scenario took place on August 15, 2020. If a player is involved in a retroactive roleplay, the thread should be tagged with PAST and the actual day/date/time that the thread takes place on should be denoted at the top of the post. Metagaming is forbidden. Keep in character and out of character separate. Anything not expressed directly by means of communication to another character is OOC knowledge. Betty might like the color white, and her writer might type that she likes it in a post, but unless Betty tells Rue, "I like white," Rue does not know this--only Rue's player does. Avoid godmoding. This refers to controlling another player through direct or indirect means. In some cases, a player might allow it, and that is at their discretion. Generally speaking though, it is up to the player whether or not a certain action or attack affects them. Similarly, it is frowned upon to make a character invincible. We do not allow the playing of gods, therefore no characters have the power, strength, or defense of one. Ask before permadeath. Character deaths are up to the character's player, always. As is maiming. This does not mean that a player cannot attempt to do these things, only that the victim must be given the opportunity to get out of a situation, even if its not necessarily unscathed. Similarly, repeated abuse of this rule to get out of situations in manners that are unreasonable and unbelievable is frowned upon.
